9 Barriers to TAKE OFF
So we’ve been hyped by the preacher’s sermon, thrown the confetti, clinked our glasses, sent out those “We made it” or “Happy New Year!” texts, and mentally said to ourselves "this will be my year!" However, today we are actually faced with 2019. We're back to the regularly scheduled program called life, and your situations may look exactly the same as they did just a little over 72 hours ago. So what do you do?
Last month, God so sweetly gave me the word for myself and my ministry...this is your year of TAKE OFF! Ok, God...but how? TAKE OFF...it sounds, good...in fact it sound great, but God what could keep me in a holding pattern that keeps me on the runway and never reaching my elevation/cruising altitude/destination? My prayer always is that God shows me what to do; however, many times I have to supplement this same prayer by asking Him to show me what not to do. In other words, Lord reveal to me barriers that could prevent or deter me from doing what you’ve assigned me to do).
Below I want to share with you 9 barriers to TAKE OFF and how to overcome these holding patterns, so we can soar to new dimensions in 2019:
1. Living in the past
You cannot do anything about what already happened. When we live in the past we become blinded to the options and opportunities in front of us. An amazing future essentially becomes nonexistent when we choose not to move forward.
2. Fearing change
Fear of change hinders you and your vision. “If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we aren’t really living.” – Gail Sheehy
3. Trying to please everyone
We are all people-pleasers to some extent. Wanting to be approved of and loved is as natural as wanting food and shelter. However, it’s when you try to please everyone, that people-pleasing becomes a problem. Learning to be the real you, standing up for yourself, and finding the courage to say no is the only cure. So come on, let the real you shine. The world is waiting!
4. Being afraid to be different
Be who God created you to be. Don't be scared into losing what makes you unique. Because when you conform, your original ideas, your creativity and individuality, and what you bring to the table, is lost forever.
5. Making unwise decisions
Making decisions isn’t always an easy task. We’re faced with decisions every day. Some are simple and some are complex. You may think your decisions don’t matter that much, but trust me they do! The good and bad decisions you make will affect you, your family and the people you influence for years to come. Since your decisions strongly impact your destiny, seek wisdom. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” James 1:5 ESV
6. Thinking you’re not good enough
Getting you to think you are not good enough is one of the enemy's weapons of deception. He knows if you discover who you really are, you will be unstoppable. In Judges 6, Gideon perceived himself to be small, saw his resources as limited, and felt inadequate for the job he was being called to do. However, he soon discovered that with God he was enough and therefore defeated the Midianites. Guess what, you too are enough. Know that what you have inside of you is sufficient to accomplish what is in front of you. All God wants is your "yes."
7. Sacrificing your happiness for others
No one else’s happiness should be at the expense of your own. Sometimes we have dreams or opportunities we want to pursue but because it would significantly affect someone else’s life, we stay where we are and not follow our heart. This year, choose you. Your dreams matter!
8. Thinking you have no purpose
We are all here for a reason. God has amazing plans for you, so be intentional about living your life on purpose.
9. Having no plan
Success is not a straight line. Innovation has no end. No matter where you are in life, you can be successful if you have a plan for action. -T. Boone Pickens
